1. How old do you have to be to rent a boat or jet ski? You must be 21 years of age to rent a boat or Jet Ski. (Picture ID required)
2. How do I reserve a boat or jet ski? In order to begin the reservation process, you will need to confirm availability of your selected boat and date of outing. You may do that by calling us or sending a reservation request by clicking on our CONTACT US page. We will then need to collect your rental deposit by credit card over the phone to guarantee your reservation.
3. What if I need to cancel my reservation? Cancellations (weather and non-weather related) and any resulting refunds are subject to Better Boat Rental’s Terms and Conditions. A copy will be sent to you as part of the reservation process. Please understand that a refund is not guaranteed, and you may be liable for the full rental rate if we are not able to rent the boat to another family.
4. Do you require a damage deposit? We do not collect a damage deposit, but a credit card is required for pre-authorization in advance of your outing. No charges will be applied to the credit card unless equipment is lost or damaged during your outing – and only then to cover the cost of the repairs. There are NO penalty charges or hidden fees.
5. What is your pet policy? We have some pet friendly boats. Please call for details.
6. Can I fish from your boats, and do I need a fishing license? Yes, you can fish from our pontoon boats. There is No Fishing from Deck Boats. State law requires you to carry a fishing license. Go to this link http://dnr.sc.gov to get more information.
7. Can I grill on the boat? We have a no cooking policy on all of our boats but feel free to enjoy a picnic. For insurance reasons, NO grill is allowed to be transported on any boat – even if you do not plan to use it on the boat.
8. What if I don’t know how to drive a boat? Our professionally trained staff will spend approximately 30 minutes on the water teaching you about boat usage and safe boating practices including recognizing lake markers and boating etiquette. Our goal is for you to have fun safely and stay in compliance with SC boating laws.
9. Do you rent water tubes and other water toys? We rent tubes, wakeboards, and kneeboards. We also rent water skis for adults and juniors. Ski vests are included with the rental of any water toy. Please let us know what you want in advance so it can be ready when you arrive for your rental. Jet Skis are NOT allowed to tow any water toy!
10. Do you supply life preservers or do I need to bring my own? Yes, we provide all coast guard required safety gear.
11. Who pays for gas? The renter pays for gas by refueling upon return to the gas dock at Lake Murray Marina.
12. Where are your boats located? Our office and boats are located at Lake Murray Marina. Parking is ample and dock carts are available to transport your gear to the dock. For more information, visit our Hours & Location page.
13. What are your hours of operation? For insurance reasons, boats are limited to daylight operation only. Boating hours and Office hours are seasonal. For more information, visit our Hours & Location page. Departure times are BY APPOINTMENT and require PROMPT ARRIVAL to ensure adequate time for on the water driver training.
